Caroline Keene "Carrie" Kelley
Carrie Kelley was introduced in Frank Miller's Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (1986), where she becomes the new Robin when she saves Batman's life. She is the successor to Jason Todd.
In a major difference to the two previous Robins, Carrie does indeed have parents, but they aren't seen much. They are very neglectful of her, and through their dialogue are hinted to have been activists and yippies during the 1960s, but now have become apathetic stoners.
In the story, Jason Todd's death during his time as Robin was the reason behind Batman's retirement and when Carrie becomes the new Robin after saving his life, Bruce threatens to fire her on multiple occasions for disobeying orders, but since she shows immense talent, he allows her to stay. When she and Batman find the City Dump lair of ruthless street gang The Mutants, Batman and the Mutant Leader engage in hand-to-hand combat. The leader nearly kills Batman, but is narrowly defeated by the battered caped crusader. Carrie then attends to him while on the way back to the Batcave and then he fully accepts her as the new Robin.
Though non-canonical, Carrie was the first female Robin, preceding Stephanie Brown, although Julie Madison had passed off as Robin for a brief time in a Bob Kane story published in Detective Comics #49 (March 1941).
Later, in Batman: The Dark Knight Strikes Again (2001), Carrie adopts the identity of Catgirl.
