Batman: Year One was originally published in the pages of Batman #404-407 (February-May 1987). The original artwork (as it appeared in the single issues) was later recolored for the collected edition.

Batman: Year One
(New Edition)
In 2005, DC published a new edition of Batman: Year One in both soft- and hardcover. It has the recoloring as seen above (but slightly remastered) and includes loads of reproductions of original pencils, script pages, promotional art and unseen Batman art by David Mazzucchelli.

In 2012, DC published another collected edition of Batman: Year One. This release received some backlash by the original artist, David Mazzucchelli.

To date, the only way to enjoy the original coloring was to get the original issues (Batman #404-407).
Finally, in 2016, DC published an Absolute edition of Batman: Year One, containing two books; one with the original coloring and one with the recoloring.

- The first volume remasters the recolored version of the story from previous collected editions.
- The second volume reprints the original 1987 version of the story as it ran in Batman #404-407, reproduced from scans made by David Mazzucchelli and Richmond Lewis from the printed comic book pages, presented on stock that simulates the look and feel of the original comics.
